The National Organic Program (NOP)

 

The Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) of 1990, adopted as part of the 1990 Farm Bill, requires national standards to be set by the USDA for organically produced agricultural products. This assures customers that these organic products meet uniform and consistent standards. The National Organic Program (NOP) requires that agricultural products with an organic label come from farms or operations certified from an agency accredited by the USDA.

The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI)

The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that reviews substances that are used in organic production and handling. Much of their focus is on compliance standards of the generic materials and brand name products. This nonprofit organization reviews substances that are used in organic production and handling.
