Mole Control

Model 0631 Out O'Sight Instructions for Mole Traps

The presence of moles will be indicated by mounds of soil created as they construct their tunnels.

To locate tunnels in frequent use, clear away a mound of soil and probe for the opening usually a short passage that leads down a few inches to the main tunnel.  Place mole traps in this tunnel.

To Place the Mole Traps:
Dig a hole down to main tunnel.  Make certain that hole is no larger than the mole trap and that it is aligned with straight section of the tunnel.

Build a mound in center of hole using loose soil.

Place mole traps in the hole, pushing down firmly until it rests on mound.  Fill in tunnel entrances with soil.  Release safety hook.

NOTE:  Place a box or board over mole traps to avoid danger to children and animals.

To Set the Mole Traps:

Place setting levers on mole traps spring as shown.

Carefully draw setting levers together.  This will require some strength.

When levers are fully compressed, place end of locking bar on trigger pan.  Temporarily set the safety hook around top of other mole trap leg.

Remove setting levers and place mole traps in mole runway.

Release safety hook only when mole trap is properly positioned.

Note:  To reduce sensitivity and increase trigger tension, bend trigger pan slightly with pliers.

Caution should be taken when setting mole traps so that injury does not occur.  Keep out of the reach of children.

RECOMMENDED MEASURES OF MOLE CONTROL

There are several methods of mole control on the market : baiting with mole bait, gassing, repellents and trapping with mole traps.
We carry and offer all the forms, however trapping is the most reliable method of mole control

With all the methods and particularly with trapping, patience and persistence are the key words.

Trapping with mole traps is usually easiest during the spring and fall with mole activity is at a peak. Trapping in the spring can also eliminate the pregnant females, reducing population.

It is completely essential to locate the main runways for successful trapping with mole traps or baiting with mole bait.

To identify main runways look for runways which:

  • Follow more or less a straight course for some distance
  • Appear to connect two mounds or two runway systems.
  • Follow fence rows, concrete paths or other man-made borders or
  • Follow a woody perimeter of a field or yard.
  • Nest are commonly found along protected areas like fence rows or hedgerows.

To use a mole trap, such as the VICTOR OUT O'SIGHT MOLE TRAP first flatten the tunnels by stepping on them or by using a lawn roller.

This will allow you to tell which tunnels are being used, because new ones will appear the next day.
Put the traps on these new tunnels.
Set the trap and leave it, taking care not to trample or disturb any other portion of the runway system.

Check the trap once or twice a day.
If a trap fails to produce a mole within 4-5 days, move the mole traps to another portion of the runway system or use another runway.

For an excellent guide to trapping moles the MOLE CONTROL BOOKLET. This letter page size booklet contains contains superb line drawings and excellent information on trapping moles.

In most cases poisoned baits are not generally well accepted, but the RCO MOLE BAITdoes have a high acceptance rate, since the base of the bait is made of of grub worms.
This highly palatable bait has unique attractants proven effective for the mole, notorious for its very cautious eating manner of what it eats, especially baits.

Another bait on the market Kaput Mole Gel Bait has proven to be unique in it's effect on moles, with many positive Testimonials.

This patented delivery system is unique. Basically you inject one ounce of gel into each active site. When the mole passes through he eats it and dies

Although the poisonous gases such as GIANT DESTROYER are generally less effective unless you can gas the major nests and/or repeated applications are made, some people have gotten good results with this type of product.

Is is suggested that spraying or treating the mole's food source (insects and grubs) would eliminate the mole population, which had been true before products such as Ficam Granules and Oftanal had been on the market.
There are currrently no insecticidal granular including Talstar and Delta guard that would penetrate deeply enough to be effective.

There is a repellent on the market that offers short term results:
    such as WHOLE CONTROL.
